A transcript of the court proceedings between Kimathi and his Counsel Fredrick Miller after his capture made available shows that Kimathi had a good reason for going to hiding, but this was clearly overlooked by the court because Kimathi’s case was already decided even before he appeared in court. John Lonsdale says in his introduction: Dedan Kimathi was found guilty of terrorist offences and sentenced to death. This marked the beginning of his violent uprising. He had two brothers, Wambararia and Wagura, and two sisters.

This group was later transformed to become dedqn well-known Mau Mau group that led a fierce uprising against the British colonial masters. The stream of visitors that tried to gain access to see the Mau Mau leader strengthened the rapport. It was very much like going up and down the spokes of a wheel.
Dedan Kimathi, the leader of the Mau Mau uprising, was seen as both a terrorist and a hero by the divided Kikuyu peoples. We were moved to what was then still known locally as the King Georgey hotel but what was in fact Her Komathi Prison just north of Nyeri township.
